Conventional or Modern-Thought on American Oil Painting

Once we talk about America, we will easily think of modernism, high-tech and vanguard. Therefore it is hardly to think of something conventional especially in the aspect of oil painting. During more than two hundred year’s history, the United States created quantities of prominent contributions for human being. It is a young but super powerful country. Despite of its advanced development is every aspect of life; we always neglect art development there. In fact, from the time the United States set up, art and artists has been developing silently; there are quite many wonderful oil paintings as well. Mentioning art in the USA, normal people may take it as modern and absurd for granted. Only these authentic art lovers and serious criticizers can tell you that there are several great American artists who feature in classical art style. For instance, John Singer Sargent is one of the earliest artists in America. He is regarded as the “leading portrait painter in his generation” for his excellent portrait oil paintings in Grand Manner. He had also made his name in Europe. Besides John Singer, Norman Rockwell is another outstanding artist. His artworks can be looked as local American art with a reflection on American culture. Norman Rockwell has influenced a whole century during art history. All in all, if we want to be austere art lovers, we should appreciate art works around the world. Even modern America has conventional oil painting.
